One of the Blue Flag beaches in Europe
Torre dell’Orso is a pleasant seaside resort whose name is probably linked to the presence of a square-shaped coastal tower, built in the XVI century, called Torre di Sant’Orsola. For others, however, the name derives from the presence of the monk seal (bear) or it could simply be a modification of the name of the owner of these lands, Urso.
Known for its beach of thin silver-coloured sand, Torre dell’Orso boasts a particularly clear sea due to the currents of the Otranto canal. Thanks to this feature, in the summer the town is frequented by many tourists and has been repeatedly awarded the Blue Flag of Europe for the transparency and cleanliness of the sea.
This small hamlet has become the reference point for many tourists who come every year to enjoy the beauties of its bay. It is suitable for families with children due to the presence of comfortable beaches and modern services, for mature couples looking for relaxation, for sportsmen who can practice many activities at sea, and for young people who can enjoy clubs along the coast and in the nearby cities.
Torre dell’Orso, which is part of Melendugno shore, is located in the heart of Salento, a few kilometres from the beautiful Otranto and close to other interesting holiday destinations.
